Abstract

Several errors and misinterpretations in available keys, diagnoses and descriptions of species in the libellulid genus Microtrigonia Förster are corrected. M. marsupialis Förster is known only from the holotype male, M. petaurina Lieftinck only from the holotype female, and the only species for which both sexes are known is M. gomphoides Lieftinck. A species recently collected in Papua New Guinea, Microtrigonia curvata sp. nov. (Holotype ♂ from Yukfon Creek, Hindenburg Range), is described, illustrated and discussed.
